Wicked Weed Bourbon Barrel-Aged Milk and Cookies Stout
January 4, 2017
Originally planned to be distributed, the folks at Wicked Weed were worried about the shelf life (said a bartender) and apparently didn’t feel this bba was up to their standards for distribution. Luckily they still put it on tap while I was home for the holidays. Talk about a Christmas surprise. I was a fan of the sweet stout and looking forward to the complexity the ageing would add so I was excited to get to try it out for myself. I am sad they won’t be distributing this beer as it has the perfect amount of bourbon without adding too much heat. It’s still on the sweeter side as the regular stout is (I mean with a name like Milk & Cookies you can expect that), but the Kentucky bourbon definitely helps to balance out the beer. Though a great beer for the season it’s still not too heavy to have a couple glasses. The vanilla spices and sweet raisins only add to the festivity of this stout. If you’re lucky enough to get your hands on it in Asheville it is great for the winter. It has a medium to full body and at 10.5% you could have a couple (if you’re walking of course) before heading home to spend the holidays with your family.
