If Hoppyum is on tap, it is a safe bet that it will end up in our pint glass. Part of our regular roundup, we like to think of it as Ol’ Faithful. Okay, that may have been a little over-the-top but we clearly have a soft spot for this beer. True to its namesake, Hoppyum is a deliciously hoppy (though not overly bitter) IPA. At 6.25% it’s higher than a session, yet low enough that you can have a couple without the fear of becoming that overly chatty patron that ends up telling the whole bar about your obsession with Meryl Streep. Or maybe that’s just us…oops.
A beer for all occasions, Hoppyum pairs well with various foods and/or atmospheres (we prefer the beach). It’s medium amber in color with a mellow nose and contains a well-balanced piney-citrus taste. Finishing on the dry side, the simcoe hops prevail in this one without lingering on your palate. Not only lighter in flavor, Hoppyum is also lighter on the carbonation scale saving us from that overly full feeling. We all want to avoid those watermelon sized beer bellies, right?! It’s hard to find many faults in this one. You can rest assured as long as Foothills keeps making them, we’ll keep drinking them.
