I first had this beer on tap at a restaurant and was upset I hadn’t tried Westbrook before. This was a great twist on a traditional witbier with lots of lemongrass. It pours a dark golden yellow with sugar white foam that leaves some wisps behind. It is a light to medium body with medium carbonation and is exceptionally refreshing with a hint of ginger and lemon drops. At 5% it is perfect for sipping by the pool and also pairs well with food. It works well with lighter dishes as well as anything spicy (ahem Thai maybe). There isn’t much lingering flavor, which makes it ideal for balancing with food. Though it is a easy drinking beer it still offers some complexity with a bit of banana and wheat in addition to the lemon and ginger spice. I am particularly fond of this beer because it’s light and refreshing, but not overly citrusy like many other witbiers. I can’t wait for the summer to roll again so I can enjoy a few of these beach side.
